Charlie Beare

Charlie Beare (he/him) is a photographer and artist based in Belfast, Northern Ireland. He recently graduated from Ulster University’s Belfast School of Art with a First Class Honours in Bachelor’s of Photography with Video.

His practice works with themes of queerness and gender identity and his own personal experiences of living as a queer transgender man. The project is called Man Enough and was completed last year for the final year of my photography degree. It looks at my personal experience of masculinity as a gay trans man and how I "fail" at masculinity from a cis-hetero lens. I photographed myself in nature to fight back against the queer/transphobic belief that being queer and being trans are unnatural.
