Jamie Robinson
My aim for my work and myself is to create conversation in the community that isn't what the media and public want us to be talking about. I want to talk about the realities of being trans and transitioning, there’s so much more to it than people think. My stories of my survival and growth through my transition often shock people and this is exactly what I want my photos to do as well.
I have been transitioning for 5 years now and have had no outlet, I have been so focused and caught up in the complexities of the process and failing system of private and NHS care. I have created this photographic project to show the process of my own transition, highlighting the struggles and experiences that are unknown, the lived experiences that aren't portrayed in the media because ‘The Surgery’ and bathroom debates take up all of the conversation. These images touch on the topics of childhood, financial strain, body image, personal hygiene, family support etc.
