Miky

My name is Michela, Miky, aka meriodoc (she/they). I am a non binary person and I work as freelance illustrator, content creator (IG: @meriodoc) and sex educator. I was born in 1996, and I live in a small town called Dolzago, in Italy. In 2018 I graduate with honours in Illustration at the European Institute of Design in Milan.

I love vintage clothing and dressing in an eccentric and colourful way. I collect pipes and I have a great obsession for dogs, pugs in particular.

Drawing, to me, is like breathing; I especially enjoy dealing with themes related to intersectional feminism, inclusivity and sexuality, and of course the LGBTQIAPK+ community.

I work mainly as an illustrator, and share educational contents for sex. ed. projects, on and outside of social media. I also do graphic design and editing for centrometri, a young publishing house dedicated to graphic novels about the world of sports, which also tackles issues of gender and disability. This illustration is the result of a wonderful collaboration with Elia Bonci (@elia.lien), and it is inspired by one of the sweetest scenes in his book Controcuore, a book that features a trans* boy as the main charachter. I immediately felt such a great connection with the story - which is already in itself rich in poetic imagery - that translating it into drawing came natural to me.

As a non binary person, and as an illustrator, I am very happy to be able to use my work as another form of expression of who I am. In general, it is a very effective and fulfilling way to vent and expressing, instead of repressing, the things we struggle to communicate the most.
